About Shuka
Vyasa's son, conceived when the apsara Ghritachi crossed the wood as a parrot while his father was rubbing the fire sticks on Meru, and born already carrying the Vedas. He pressed his father with question after question about emancipation until Vyasa sent him to Janaka of Mithila, and he crossed the whole earth on foot to get an answer he was told he must earn. At the end he refused the world outright, rose through the sky, split the twin peaks of the northern mountains and vanished, and Vyasa's cry after him is still the echo those hills return.
