The Mahabharata

Learning Paths

Three guided courses through the epic - 48 steps in all, each one built from the stories, people and places already on this site.

The Mahabharata runs to about 100,000 verses, and it does not open with the Pandavas. It opens with a snake sacrifice, four generations after the war, and works backwards. That structure is one of the reasons readers stall in the first hundred pages: the epic assumes you will come back to it for a lifetime, so it feels no obligation to introduce anyone in order.

A path fixes that. Each one is a sequence of short readings with a stated purpose, drawing on the story library, the character profiles, the timeline and the map, so that causes reach you before consequences do. Start with the 30 day arc if the epic is new to you, take the heroes path once you know the plot, and save the philosophy path for when the arguments matter more than the events.
