About Alaka
The city of Kubera, lord of treasures, set among the Himalayan heights beyond Kailasa and peopled by yakshas, guhyakas and the gandharvas who serve him. Its pleasure grounds on Gandhamadana hold the saugandhika pool that Bhima raided for Draupadi, scattering Kubera's guards; kings who bathe in the epic's tirthas are promised its splendour, and Narada tells the blind Dhritarashtra in the forest that he and Gandhari will go at last to the realm of the lord of Alaka.
