Kaurava (kaurava)

कौरव

What Kaurava Means in the Mahabharata

Kaurava strictly means a descendant of Kuru and therefore covers Pandavas and Dhritarashtra's sons alike, but usage in the epic narrows it to Duryodhana's hundred brothers and their party. The slide is itself part of the argument, since the war is fought over who counts as the legitimate continuation of the line. Yuyutsu, born to Dhritarashtra by a serving woman, is the one Kaurava who crosses over before the fighting begins, and the only son of that house to survive it.
