Janardana (janārdana)

Janardana is a name of Krishna usually read as one who stirs or agitates people, and sometimes as the refuge whom people petition. Both senses are apt in the Mahabharata, since he is the ambassador everyone appeals to and the agent whose interventions ensure the war happens. Arjuna uses the name in the Gita at his most despairing, when he accuses his charioteer of pushing him into a horror, which is exactly what the word can be made to mean.
