Vrikodara (vṛkodara)

Vrikodara means wolf-bellied, and belongs to Bhima, whose appetite and strength are both prodigious and whose hunger is a running feature of the epic. The name fits his role, since he is the one who eats the demon Bakasura's tribute cart on the way to killing him, and the one whose rage is never quite civilised by the arguments the others make. It is Bhima who keeps the vows nobody else will keep, and the epic clearly regards that as both his virtue and his horror.
