Satya Yuga (satya-yuga)

सत्ययुग

What Satya Yuga Means in the Mahabharata

The Satya Yuga, also called the Krita Yuga, is the first and longest of the four ages, when dharma stands on all four legs and truth needs no enforcement. In the Mahabharata it functions mainly as a measure of loss: sages describe it when they want to show Yudhishthira how far the world has already fallen. Kings such as Prithu and Harishchandra are remembered as figures of that age, when a ruler's word alone was enough to keep the order.
