Gandharva (gandharva)
गन्धर्व
What Gandharva Means in the Mahabharata
Gandharvas are celestial musicians, skilled in illusion and in arms, who move between the worlds and often instruct or humble mortals who wander too confidently. Chitraratha attacks Arjuna at a night ford, is beaten, and then becomes a friend and teacher, giving the brothers their priest and a store of ancestral history. Another band of them captures Duryodhana during the cattle expedition he mounted to gloat at the exiles, and he has to be rescued by the cousins he came to mock.
